Ph.D. Candidate, Italian Studies & Comparative Literature

Julia Pelosi-Thorpe is an Italian-Australian PhD student in Italian Studies/Comparative Literature and Literary Theory at the University of Pennsylvania.

Her interests include reception/adaptation/translation studies, cultures of textual production from scribal to print to digital, and language pedagogy. She is a 2022–2023 Graduate Project Assistant with the Schoenberg Database of Manuscripts and a 2023 Mellon Doctoral Summer Fellow at the Price Lab for Digital Humanities.

Julia’s translations of Latin, Italian, and Parmesan Dialect poetry appear in the Journal of Italian Translation, Asymptote, Modern Poetry in Translation, The Poetry Review, The Hopkins Review, and other literary magazines.

Joy translating ancient texts at the Universities of Melbourne and Bologna as a Classics undergraduate led Julia to an MA by research in Italian Studies/Classics (2020), which examined creative baroque rewritings of Ovid through close readings of early modern volumes held in Italian libraries. She returned to research in Italy in 2022 to complete an Australasian Centre for Italian Studies-Save Venice Fellowship.

She can be found at @jpelosithorpe and her website is jpelosithorpe.com.
