This talk is fundamentally a meditation on black and trans thought, where the two are to be understood as the radical unsuturing of ontological impositions—given ontologies—chief among which are racial taxonomy and gender normativity. Through theorizing Gilles Deleuze and Jacques Derrida in black and trans, or revealing the black and trans thought present in Deleuzian and Derridean philosophy—arguing that thought qua thought, thought properly understood, is black and trans radicality—the speaker meditates on the questions of (gender) abolition and subjectless critique.
Dr. Marquis Bey is currently Assistant Professor of African American Studies and English, affiliated faculty in Gender & Sexuality Studies, and core faculty member of Critical Theory, at Northwestern University. Bey is the author, most recently, of Black Trans Feminism (Duke, 2022). They are currently revising a manuscript entitled Cistem Failure: Essays on Blackness and Cisgender (forthcoming, 2022).
