Visual Poetry in India and Europe

12:00pm - September/24/2019

Professor Hanneder, Philipps-Universitaet Marburg, will report on a massive work of visual poetry, called the “The Wish-fulfilling tree” (Kalpavrksa) by Sahib Kaul (17th century). Composed in Sanskrit and several other Indian languages, the work gives some comparative angle between medieval Indian forms of visual poetry (citrakāvya) and medieval European forms of carmina figurata.
